Ingredients
1 pound ground beef
2 cans (15 oz each) tomato sauce
1 cup sour cream
3 ounces cream cheese
1/2 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese
8 ounces egg noodles
1 white onion, diced
1 teaspoon garlic salt
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon white sugar
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 175°C (350°F) and grease a 9×13-inch casserole dish.
- In a large skillet, brown ground beef over medium-high heat. Drain excess fat, then add garlic salt, salt, tomato sauce, and sugar. Stir and simmer for 20 minutes.
- Cook egg noodles in boiling water until al dente. Drain and rinse under cold water.
- In a mixing bowl, combine diced onion, sour cream, and cream cheese. Stir until smooth.
- Layer half the cooked noodles in the casserole dish, then half the sour cream mixture, followed by half the beef sauce. Repeat layers.
- Sprinkle shredded cheddar cheese evenly over the top.
- Bake for 25 minutes, or until bubbly and cheese is golden brown.
- Let cool slightly before serving.
Notes
- Add vegetables like chopped bell peppers or frozen peas for extra flavor.
- Use lean ground beef for a lighter version.
- Can be assembled ahead and refrigerated until ready to bake.
- Store leftovers in the fridge for 3-4 days or freeze for up to 3 months.
