Garlic Parmesan Chicken Skewers are a delicious, savory dish featuring tender chicken, a homemade garlic parmesan butter sauce, and the perfect balance of heat from red pepper flakes and hot sauce. Cooked in an air fryer, these skewers are quick to prepare and offer juicy, flavorful chicken every time.

  • Total Time: 35 minutes
  • Yield: 6 skewers

Ingredients

2 lbs chicken tenders, thighs, or breasts

2 tbsp olive oil

Garlic Parmesan Butter Sauce

1 stick butter

810 cloves garlic, minced

1/2 cup parmesan, grated

1 tbsp hot sauce (more if desired)

2 teaspoons red pepper flakes

1/3 cup fresh parsley, minced

Chicken Seasonings

2 teaspoons paprika

1 teaspoon garlic powder

1 teaspoon onion powder

1/2 teaspoon salt

1/2 teaspoon pepper

Instructions

  1. Soak wooden skewers in water for at least 30 minutes. In a small bowl, combine the chicken seasoning mixture (paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper). Cut the chicken into 3-inch pieces and toss in olive oil and the seasoning mixture.
  2. Thread the chicken pieces onto the skewers tightly, leaving no gaps. Trim the ends of the skewers if necessary to fit in the air fryer.
  3. In a microwave-safe bowl, combine the butter and minced garlic. Heat until partially melted, then stir in red pepper flakes, hot sauce, parsley, and parmesan. Whisk until well combined.
  4. Scoop out 1/3 of the sauce and reserve for basting the par-cooked chicken. Preheat the air fryer to 400°F. Place 2-3 skewers in the air fryer basket and cook for 5 minutes.
  5. Flip the skewers, baste with the reserved sauce, and cook for another 2 minutes at 400°F. Flip them back, baste with more sauce, and cook for 5-6 minutes until the internal temperature reaches 165°F.
  6. Once the chicken is cooked, baste it one final time with the reserved garlic parmesan sauce, sprinkle with extra parmesan, and serve hot.

Notes

  • If cooking in the oven, preheat to 450°F, place skewers on a rimmed baking sheet, and bake for 14 minutes, flipping halfway through.
  • For grilling, preheat the grill to medium-high and cook skewers, basting with sauce, for 5-6 minutes per side.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 3 days in the fridge.
  • Reheat leftovers in an air fryer at 350°F for 4-5 minutes or in the oven at 350°F for 10 minutes until heated through.
  • Skewers can be prepped up to 24 hours in advance and stored in the fridge.
