Ingredients
8 slices of brioche or thick white bread
1 cup cream cheese, softened
1/4 cup powdered sugar
1 tsp vanilla extract
1 cup fresh strawberries, sliced
1/2 cup strawberry jam or preserves
1 cup all-purpose flour
1 cup milk
1 large egg
1 tsp vanilla extract
1 tbsp granulated sugar
Pinch of salt
Vegetable oil for frying
1/2 cup sweetened condensed milk (optional for extra decadence)
Instructions
- In a bowl, mix the softened cream cheese, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract until smooth and creamy.
- Spread a generous layer of the cream cheese mixture on one side of four slices of bread. Top with sliced strawberries and a small spoonful of strawberry jam. Place the other slices of bread on top to form sandwiches. Press gently to seal.
- In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, milk, egg, vanilla extract, granulated sugar, and salt until smooth.
- Heat about 2 inches of vegetable oil in a deep skillet or pot to 350°F (175°C).
- Dip each sandwich into the batter, ensuring it’s fully coated. Gently place the sandwich into the hot oil. Fry for 2-3 minutes per side, or until golden brown and crispy. Remove and place on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.
- Drizzle the sandwiches with sweetened condensed milk for added sweetness. Cut each sandwich in half diagonally and serve warm with fresh strawberries on the side.
Notes
- Vegan Option: Substitute cream cheese with vegan cream cheese and use plant-based milk and egg replacements like flax egg or chia egg.
- Other Fruit Options: Try blueberries, raspberries, or bananas for a different flavor.
- Storage: Best enjoyed immediately, but can be refrigerated for up to 2 days.
- Reheating: Reheat in an oven or toaster oven at 350°F for 5-7 minutes to regain crispiness.
