Ingredients
1 lb ground beef
1 cup long-grain white rice (uncooked)
1 packet French onion soup mix
2 1/2 cups beef broth
1 cup sour cream
2 cups shredded cheese (mozzarella, Swiss, or preferred blend)
1 1/2 cups French-fried onions
2 tbsp butter
1 tsp garlic powder
Salt, to taste
Black pepper, to taste
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
- In a skillet over medium heat, cook ground beef until browned. Drain excess fat and season with garlic powder, salt, and pepper.
- In a large bowl, combine uncooked rice, French onion soup mix, and beef broth. Stir thoroughly.
- Add the cooked ground beef and sour cream to the rice mixture; mix until well combined.
- Transfer mixture to the prepared baking dish, spreading evenly. Top with shredded cheese.
- Cover with foil and bake for 40 minutes.
- Remove foil and bake for an additional 10–15 minutes, until cheese is melted and bubbly.
- Sprinkle French-fried onions on top and bake for another 5 minutes until golden and crispy.
- Let cool slightly before serving.

- Long-grain white rice works best for texture and flavor absorption.
- For a lighter version, omit sour cream or replace with Greek yogurt.
- Add vegetables like peas, carrots, or bell peppers for extra nutrition.
