Ingredients
1 pound lean ground beef
1/3 cup bread crumbs
2 teaspoons ketchup
1 teaspoon mustard
1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
1/2 teaspoon onion powder
2 packets brown gravy mix
2 cups hot water
1 teaspoon ketchup (for gravy)
1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce (for gravy)
Instructions
- Add all the patty ingredients to a large bowl. Use clean hands to combine the ingredients thoroughly.
- Divide the mixture into four equal portions and shape them into patties.
- Heat 1 tablespoon of avocado oil in a skillet over medium heat. Once hot, cook the patties until the beef is no longer pink in the center (about 5 minutes per side). Adjust the heat to low once the patties are cooked through.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the gravy mix, hot water, ketchup, and Worcestershire sauce until smooth.
- Pour the gravy mixture over the cooked patties in the skillet. Allow it to come to a simmer, stirring occasionally. If the gravy becomes too thick, add 1/4 cup of additional water and stir.
- Serve the Salisbury steaks hot, ideally over mashed potatoes or your preferred side.
Notes
- For a vegetarian version, use plant-based ground beef.
- To enhance the flavor, add sautéed mushrooms to the gravy.
- For a spicy kick, add cayenne pepper or hot sauce to the gravy.
- Top the patties with cheese during the last few minutes of cooking for a cheesy twist.
- Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days.
- You can freeze the cooked patties and gravy for up to 3 months.
