This easy Salisbury Steak recipe is the perfect comfort food, offering a quick and delicious meal for the whole family with flavorful beef patties smothered in rich, savory gravy.

  • Total Time: 20 minutes
  • Yield: 4 servings

Ingredients

1 pound lean ground beef

1/3 cup bread crumbs

2 teaspoons ketchup

1 teaspoon mustard

1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce

1/2 teaspoon garlic powder

1/2 teaspoon onion powder

2 packets brown gravy mix

2 cups hot water

1 teaspoon ketchup (for gravy)

1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce (for gravy)

Instructions

  1. Add all the patty ingredients to a large bowl. Use clean hands to combine the ingredients thoroughly.
  2. Divide the mixture into four equal portions and shape them into patties.
  3. Heat 1 tablespoon of avocado oil in a skillet over medium heat. Once hot, cook the patties until the beef is no longer pink in the center (about 5 minutes per side). Adjust the heat to low once the patties are cooked through.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk together the gravy mix, hot water, ketchup, and Worcestershire sauce until smooth.
  5. Pour the gravy mixture over the cooked patties in the skillet. Allow it to come to a simmer, stirring occasionally. If the gravy becomes too thick, add 1/4 cup of additional water and stir.
  6. Serve the Salisbury steaks hot, ideally over mashed potatoes or your preferred side.

Notes

  • For a vegetarian version, use plant-based ground beef.
  • To enhance the flavor, add sautéed mushrooms to the gravy.
  • For a spicy kick, add cayenne pepper or hot sauce to the gravy.
  • Top the patties with cheese during the last few minutes of cooking for a cheesy twist.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days.
  • You can freeze the cooked patties and gravy for up to 3 months.
