A rich and indulgent Chocolate Croissant Breakfast Bake made with buttery croissants, chocolate chips, and a silky custard. Perfect for brunch, holidays, or cozy mornings, it delivers a bakery-worthy treat with minimal effort.

  • Total Time: 55–65 minutes
  • Yield: 8 servings

Ingredients

5 large croissants (preferably day-old), cut into 1-inch pieces

1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips

2 cups whole milk

4 large eggs

½ cup granulated sugar

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

¼ teaspoon salt

Powdered sugar, for dusting (optional)

Fresh berries or whipped cream, for serving (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and lightly grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  2. Arrange croissant pieces evenly in the baking dish and sprinkle chocolate chips throughout.
  3. In a large bowl, whisk together milk, eggs, sugar, vanilla extract, and salt until smooth.
  4. Pour the custard mixture evenly over the croissants. Press down gently to help the croissants absorb the liquid.
  5. (Optional) Let sit for 10–15 minutes to allow the custard to soak in.
  6. Bake uncovered for 45–50 minutes, until the top is golden brown and the custard is set. Tent with foil if browning too quickly.
  7. Cool slightly before dusting with powdered sugar. Serve warm with berries or whipped cream if desired.

Notes

  • Day-old croissants work best as they absorb the custard without getting mushy.
  • Can be prepared the night before and baked fresh in the morning.
  • Customize with espresso, nuts, fruits, or different chocolate varieties.
  • Gluten-free or dairy-free variations can be made with ingredient swaps.
  • Store leftovers covered in the fridge for up to 3 days, or freeze up to 1 month.
