Ingredients
2 cans of cinnamon rolls with accompanying icing
4 large apples (Granny Smith or Golden Delicious), peeled and finely diced
½ cup granulated sugar
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
¼ teaspoon ground nutmeg
1 tablespoon cornstarch
¼ to ⅓ cup caramel sauce (salted caramel optional)
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C) and spray an 8 x 8 x 2-inch baking dish with non-stick spray.
- In a bowl, combine apples, sugar, cornstarch, cinnamon, and nutmeg until evenly coated.
- Slice cinnamon rolls into ¼-inch sections and roll out each slice on a lightly floured surface.
- Arrange flattened cinnamon roll slices on the bottom of the dish, overlapping slightly, and press down gently.
- Spread half of the apple mixture over the rolls and drizzle with 2–3 tablespoons caramel sauce.
- Repeat with another layer of cinnamon rolls, the remaining apple mixture, and caramel sauce.
- Cover with foil and bake for 30 minutes. Remove foil and bake an additional 10–15 minutes until golden brown.
- Cool for at least 30 minutes, then drizzle with the icing from the cinnamon rolls before slicing and serving.
Notes
- Use Granny Smith apples for a tart contrast or Golden Delicious for a sweeter balance.
- Salted caramel adds extra depth of flavor.
- Add chopped nuts for a crunchy texture.
- Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
- Reheat in the microwave for 20–30 seconds or in the oven at 350°F for 10 minutes.
