  • Total Time: 55 minutes
  • Yield: 9 squares

Ingredients

1/2 cup butter, salted, room temperature

1 cup sugar

1 large egg

1 cup all-purpose flour

1/2 teaspoon baking powder

1/4 teaspoon salt

1/2 teaspoon cinnamon

1 1/2 cups chopped apple pieces (peeled and cored)

1/2 cup toasted pecan pieces

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350℉ (175℃).
  2. In a small pan, toast the pecans over medium heat until fragrant. Set aside to cool.
  3. Peel, core, and chop the apples into ½-inch pieces.
  4. In a mixing bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until smooth.
  5. Add the egg and beat until the mixture is light and fluffy.
  6. Stir in the flour, baking powder, salt, and cinnamon until just combined.
  7. Fold in the chopped apples and toasted pecans.
  8. Spread the batter evenly into a buttered or parchment-lined 8×8-inch baking dish.
  9. Bake for 30–45 minutes or until golden brown and set in the center. A toothpick should come out with moist crumbs.
  10. Cool in the pan for about 15 minutes before slicing into squares and serving.
